I have neuropathy and it’s getting worse, even while on oxygen. I live alone and it’s hard to do anything. I’m not ready for a care facility. On Medicare. Who can I get to help me?

Where is your neuropathy? In your feet? Hands? Both?

You can call social services for your county to get assessed for in-home services (light housekeeping, hygiene, light food prep, transportation). A lot will depend on what you are able or unable to do.

Contact your local Area Agency on Aging for resources.

When do you think you will mentally and emotionally be "ready" to have a different living/care arrangement? You need to start making this adjustment in your mind. We all need to do this as we age.

Susan, coming up with useful suggestions can only be done with a lot more information. It sounds as though you are currently living at home. How much care do you need, what sort of care, and what times of day? How much money do you have available to spend on care? What accommodation do you have available in your home, for a live-in or semi-live-in? Do you have any family etc who could supplement commercial care?

There may be no good options, but if you can fill in the blanks, one of us may come up with options to think about. Yours, Margaret

Try care.com to hire in some help for what tasks you yourself need help with specifically. That may be shopping, cleaning, cooking or whatever you require.
Do consider a medical check up and discussion with your doctor about a Social Services consult to help you plan for some in home help; a social worker can help you think about options given your specific needs.

Best of luck.
