Mama is almost 92 and in end stage Alz. She can no longer move herself at all. Now she seems to be having trouble eating and drinking. Yesterday I fed her liquids with a syringe as she was unable to open her mouth to drink or eat. I know she is dying and this is probably part of it, but it is very hard on my dad. If you have gone through this stage already or have any suggestions I would love to hear from you.

Find Care & Housing
Yes it is part of it, and I hope you have Hospice there to help you. Do not try to force her to eat or drink, she may choke on it. Time is very short. Call in the family to say goodbyes. Find her Will and make arrangements with your funeral director and minister.

Thanks Pam, I just wanted to let you know the syringe seems to be working and even the doctor is amazed....so are we to tell the truth! Mama is still hanging in there. You are right time is very short and we have all made our peace with her and make sure she knows that she is loved. We are trying to make her as comfortable as possible as the end draws near. All arrangements were made awhile ago now it is just loving her through it. Linda

Hi Babalou! Yes, Mama has been under hospice care for about 18 months now. They have been, for the most part, very helpful and very nice, especially her daily aide. She comes in 5 days a week for about 2 hours and cleans mama and spends some time with her. She has become a part of the family and we like her very much. She says that mama will be her last patient, well under hospice that is, as she will be then 'retiring' to take care of her MIL.
