anonymouse, the Medicaid limit for pre-paid funerals is vastly lower than non. If you already have one set up for her, you've got no worries.

anonymouse, does she have a pre-paid funeral policy? I think Medicaid allows $1500 for that. My MIL is in LTC on Medicaid (but she's not in late-stage dementia). She has 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandson so I purchase cards and gifts for them on her behalf for their birthdays and holidays.

She does have a pre-paid funeral policy. I'll have to google what the limit is on that sort of thing because when I set it up, the limit was $8500. Maybe the limit has increased? Or maybe its a state by state limit? I have thought of using it as gifts on her behalf for the grandchildren but I'm pretty sure it HAS to be used for the person on Medicaid. I'll have to research that again as well. Thank you for your ideas, they are both great if Medicaid allows.

If she likes massages would she also like one of those foot whirlpool things? I have never used one of those. I don’t know if they are good or not.

Keep spending on your choices. Does she like music? She doesn’t watch television but would she listen to music? Or audio books?

If she enjoys the message schedule them weekly. That will help keep her balance down and benefit her physically.

Give her flowers every week or 2xs a week.

Anything that she can benefit from in anyway is exactly what you should do.

Can you hire a caregiver to come in and help her with interaction that she enjoys?

I think that you have good solutions already, you just need to keep them on a regular schedule.

Your suggestion of hiring a companion to visit with her is a wonderful idea. I am in the same boat with my mom. She has everything she could ever need. I am her only child. Her siblings are out of town and too old to visit. Her friends have passed away. Having someone come into visit her once a week frees me up. I go five times a week but knowing someone is there even for a short time gives me piece of mind and gives me a day to get a lot done.
