I will discuss with doctor just curious how common this is. Last 5 months Mom's memory has deteriorated at a faster rate, at least in my opinion. Cognitive abilities declining the same.

Find Care & Housing
I've noticed a major decline in a few weeks with my mom. Part of it has to do with her vision loss and every day seeming the same. In August she would wait in the hallway on the days I was going to visit. Now she seems surprised each time I visit. She has also started with a random vacant stare. January 2024 the geriatric doctor assured me she didn't have signs of dementia, so this has been a fast progression.

How old is she? My 92 YO father has good days and not-so-good days. You're right, it's not a linear process and the decline is hard, if not impossible, to measure.
