When my dad has a tech requirement (struggling to call someone, ordering transport to the hospital, checking his medical platform) the burden always arrives on me or a hired carer. I want to make those tasks easier to manage independently.
I’m building a smartphone for older people, with my dad in mind. The phone is designed to carry out spoken requests by doing things on their behalf using built in AI intelligence. Some examples:
- “Call my daughter.” The phone AI finds her contact and makes the call.
- “Book me a ride to the hospital.” The phone AI compares available fares and books the ride (without any app downloads/setups)
- "How do I turn on notifications from my medical app?" The phone AI automatically turns on notifications
I'm also integrating accessibility requirements - for example, the intelligence detects repeat calls from users with dementia, and will prevent the call from going through. Proactive reminders for things like calendar meetups, or taking medication etc
More examples of features can be seen here: https://missionstreetcompany.com/
interested to see if this would be something of interest and what features/requirements you would expect.
thanks!

Many years ago my son gave me an Dot. I thought, "Great! Now my Mom (back then in her 80s) could use it to answer questions when cooking!" Nope. She couldn't understand that she had to start the command with "Alexa" (yes, just like the SNL skit) and then she'd ask the question in such a rambling and poorly worded way that it was useless.

Sorry, but your idea (which isn't the first one to be floated on this forum) only works for seniors who still have all their minds and memory left. And if they do, they don't need your device. They also have to have a grasp of how technology works and a LOT of older Boomers just don't.

Smartphones are only as smart or cognitive as the person holding the phone....

she thought I was trying to feed her..
