Many of us, myself included, come from a dysfunctional family which adds a lot of weight to the challenges of caregiving. I have read stores on various threads on other topics and decided it would be good to have a thread just for this topic for people to share, vent and discuss.
The idea for this thread originated on the thread named "The Caregiver....How are YOU doing today?"
😉😉
I can see it’s gonna be a
rope, duct tape and shovel kind of day.
😉🙂🙂
Bikini season is just around the corner. Unfortunately, so is the taco truck.

You know who’s gonna give you everything? Yourself.

It’s YOUR story.
Feel free to hit ’em with a plot twist at any moment.
No truer words have ever been spoken about someone trying to make another person feel guilty for something they did themselves.
This is my mother and several other family members TO THE LETTER.
I came to a point with both of my parents where our relationship was I'll see you when I see you if I choose to see you. Then when they needed help it was basically I'll help you as much as I choose to and I will be no drama, no disrespect (on their parts), no manipulation, and no games. Or I'm out.
My MIL is starting up a bit hinting about us all living together, and it's a hard 'NO' from me.
🙂
So…apparently, if you keep to yourself
and you don’t bother people…
it apparently…
bothers people!

May the bridges I burn
light my way.
🙂
I don’t regret burning my bridges. I do regret that some people weren’t on those bridges when I burned them, though.
so…
here are today’s words of wisdom:

If standing up for yourself burns bridges,
I have matches.
We ride at dawn.
JRwornout - yes that too, for sure. Sometimes no contact is the way to go.
"You have to pretend I’m a bad person so you don’t feel guilty about the things you did." really resonates with me. Thanks for posting.
I'll add:
I'm not interested in rebuilding a bridge that you burned.
🙂
You look like a no thanks to me.
This one really resonates with me.

Some of the most poisonous people come disguised as friends and family.
A more polite term for a manipulative, evil person with no soul.
🌸⭐️🌸⭐️
You have to pretend I’m a bad person so you don’t feel guilty about the things you did.
BOJ -good ones.
sassy -welcome. Sounds like a lot of chaos. The only one who can get you out of this is you. A number of us here have been scapegoats to a narcissist and it makes life pretty unpleasant. i can only encourage you to build your own life apart from these people. Develop friendships with healthy people, develop your own interests - things that you enjoy. You don't have to be the "servant child" to your dysfunctional family. They are not doing you any good. Get a job and get your own place. I think then you will have a better chance of getting custody of your children. Good luck.

There is a place you can touch a woman that will drive her crazy. Her heart.

To anybody I offended this year:
Work on yourself
so I don’t gotta do it again in 2026.

“Friendship is a wildly underrated medication.”

“May you attract someone who speaks your language
so you don’t have to spend a lifetime translating your soul.”
He had a couple very intense suicide attempts , and an abandoned mill, fire , good times, 🤣🤔🤣. So I'm just very proud, of what he became
Daisy - Glad your sis helped. Stand firm with your mom. Also glad your gf's bro came to help her. That's appropriate. It doesn't all have to fall on you. Some of us who were brought up to be helpers/fixers need to stand back and leave room for others to step up.
I have started communicating again with my BPD daughter. We are keeping it about her and her kids which tends to work better. I read here about how parents expect their kids to help them and it makes me wonder.
