@Geaton777

I had second thoughts about posting the video link, And actually thought it didn't go through. Yes it was to inform and no I don't have all the answers.

Strategies, solutions? Advocate, advocate advocate, either the resident and/or their loved ones. Get all info on the facility beforehand and get everything in writing. Hospital admission only gives a limited amount of time to do this, which many NHs probably know.

Sure there are good ones, sadly the bad outweighs this. It would be nice for change,but that is going to take time.

I blame myself or not being better informed especially when it came to the duscharge process.

Sure Japan has less seniors than the US, still they are treated better. I noticed you did not mention whether in a facility or not, Japanese elderly are still treated with respect, honor and dignity that is not seen in the US.

Makes one wonder if the love of honeybees equates a love of the devil, or perhaps a third 6 might be missing….

"The thread was not to instigate, but to inform..."

Inform us of what: that crappy facilities and bad employees in those facilities exist? This is not new news. Why don't you inform us of actual strategies to fix or mitigate this issue? You are all criticism whenever possible and no solutions. What would you do differently in your personal experience to prevent it from happening to others -- other than avoiding facilities to begin with, which is unrealistic and wouldn't apply to the many good and wonderful ones.

Also, I'd be careful about romanticizing NHs in Japan since they have far fewer seniors than the US therefore making it easier to manage and fund.

@CryingInside

I hope not. I know the hands on jobs can be tough and not everyone is cut out to handle this I do hope the situation gets better. Does the facility have a good social worker at least?

Lol you're so funny.
I love Honeybees realizing how very important they are hence the spelling of the username:} Do you not think they are?

Backstory, personally did have a bad experience at a facility and it was not from the nurses, aides and definitely not PT and OT, it was all from the administration.

Not going into a long story, but discharge was not done properly and the social worker definitely was not an advocate for the residents He wanted to make himself look good in the eyes of the higher ups at the expense of the residents.

In short he should not have been a social worker in this field.

Sorry if you thought this thread was to be instigating.

I did have second thoughts about posting; I thought this didn't go through. That being said, you're right with your second sentence in the second paragraph

It is sad the way the elderly are treated in many of these facilities in the US. In Japan, as an example the exact opposite is true for many facilities.. Many are so nice, that a few commentors hoped if they need similar care the facility would be just as nice.

True, there are some wonderful facilities, that I have started to realize, mostly not involving the administration. The thread was not to instigate, but to inform:}

Thanks so much for responding:} I hope your father and you are doing well.

I think my mom is being mistreated and some abuse. The facility is nice but the staff is wayward. It’s very frustrating, I’m there as much as I possibly can be and the staff holds that against me.

@AMZ. The meaning of the word "bedevil":

Bedevil" means to torment, harass, confuse, or cause persistent problems, often used to describe persistent difficulties. Originating before the 12th century, it combines "be-" (thoroughly) with "devil," implying to act like or possess with a devil.

It is best not to interact with such posts who's sole purpose is to aggravate.

That is a sad situation.

BUT not all are like this.

Beedevil66, why are you posting this? Is it to calmly discuss how our system for elderly, nursing home staffing and aging care needs is failing in the US? To instigate your views of nursing homes? Please clarify what your intent is to post this news coverage. I hope a no confrontational robust discussion can come with this post.

First, I would want full context of this video. My father recently stumbled and if it were on video this would resemble what occurred with him and I trying to recover from his stumble and misconstrued as me being abusive when I was stupidly trying to help him but couldn't because he is far larger than me (5'10" 200 lbs of dead weight vs me at 5'2" 140 lbs).

And, if I wasn't acutely aware of how dementia works I would be totally biased viewing the video. But, sadly, I have a lot of compassion for both sides.
