I have been using and dispensing"music therapy" since decades although I have no academic knowledge about music or medicine. Remember the curative chants of our tribal shaman back when we all wore the fur of the animals we chased ? They still work in their contemporary form to resurrect . How do you feel after looking at the video titled: BAHIA YOUTH TICO . Now look at the video NEOJIBA TICO . Yes you can try it at home, even while in bed !

I was interested in the information about Parkinsons and music. My brother with Parkinsons spent many hours with opera videos--he was a part-time professional singer who had sung with the Seattle Opera company for many years. Once when I was there we had been watching one of his favorites, and he got up to answer the phone in another room. When he came back, he was surprised to see me, had forgotten that I was there--but he remembered the opera word for word.

Medications are no longer helping mom. I have 2 MP3 players with her favorite tunes. When one of the batteries drain there is a back up as mom gets agitated without her music. Mom can barely put a sentance together but can sing songs from the 50's to the 70's. Music has changed mom's quality of life for the better. Music is magic.

I sing with a small group that goes out to care facilites with old-time gospel music--hymns, country, spirituals-and we get great responses. One 96-yr-old lady thanked us for "giving me an hour of my life back." We notice that both the residents and the staff appreciate it, and we've been told that some people who haven't responded to anything do perk up with the music. We get asked back to most of the places we go, one of which is a facility for extremely disabled children. We also occasionally visit homebound seniors, and do requests. There is almost always at least one person there that sings along with us, which we encourage. We have several vocalists, one with a guitar, and one or two flute and woodwind players. We love doing it, and get a lot of appreciative responses.

My mom loves listening to bluegrass gospel music so I just look up videos on youtube and let her listen to her heart's content.

Music, at any age is a soul salve...it resonates within us and we react in a way to it that is almost undescribable, as if it is a natural healing gift. Play on!
